This utility is designed to create game maps for use by PBEM or other online gaming platforms. It''s very flexible and can create a game board image at any scale using simple sprites. It can also be use for After Action Reports on websites and blogs. Writtten in C it's fast and easy to port to different OSs
Ftmap is a freeware mapping program conceived and written in 1998 but updated in 2026. It still works today althought the technology was a bit dated as it used GIF rather than PNG format. PNG is now fully supported. Ftmap is maintained here so contact us with any feedback and/or suggestions you have concerning ftmap.
The latest release of ftmap can be found on the downloads page ( Note Drive keeps removing it, as it thinks its malicious so it's now in encrypted zip file the password is ftmap ) or a download from github that doesn't freak out.

There are several sets of sprites available for creating game maps. These include Babylon5, Star Trek and Star Wars as well as the FULL THRUST background.
